The Saskatchewan Roughriders started their on-field preparations for the season on Wednesday with the first day of training camp. Rookies camp is in session from May 7-9, before main camp opens up for the team May 11 from the same location at Griffiths Stadium in Saskatoon.

Invited onto the rookie camp roster as a territorial junior was none other than Eatonia native, and Saskatoon Hilltops d-lineman John Stevens.

He was one of two Hilltops to get an invite to camp, after an impressive few seasons with Saskatoon where Stevens collected seven sacks, eight tackles for loss, four forced fumbles, and two interceptions in 17 total games played.

Also at Roughriders rookie camp is Rosetown native wide receiver Daniel Wiebe, who was selected by the Roughriders in the eighth round of this year's CFL Draft.

Wiebe spoke to the media following the first day of rookie camp, talking about getting better each day.

We spoke with Wiebe's former high school coach in Rosetown following the draft. You can find the proud coaches' comments in the related articles section below, along with a pair of stories on Stevens from last fall.

Rookie camp continues through Friday, and then after an off-day Saturday, main camp begins for the Roughriders on Sunday.
