As dry conditions persist across southern Manitoba, burn bans have been issued in both the Rural Municipality of Dufferin and the Municipality of Norfolk Treherne.
The restrictions are in effect immediately and will remain in place until further notice.
In the RM of Dufferin, all open-air burning is prohibited. The only exception is for recreational fires in approved outdoor fire pits. These fire pits must be constructed of heavy-gauge steel, concrete or cinder blocks, with walls extending at least eight inches above ground level. Fire pits must be located at least 25 feet from any buildings and 15 feet from any property lines. When in use, fires must be attended at all times by a responsible adult and must be fully extinguished afterward.
Only solid fuel products may be used in fire pits. The burning of garbage, recyclables, household waste, lawn clippings, leaves or any other compostable material is strictly prohibited.
Similarly, the Municipality of North Norfolk has implemented a burn ban. Contained or enclosed fire pits are permitted. Anyone found violating the burn ban may be subject to penalties or fines.
Residents are urged to follow all guidelines to help prevent wildfires and ensure public safety.
