A date has been set for when Airdrie's Chinook Winds Spray Park is scheduled to open.

Cory Anderson, who works with the City of Airdrie Parks Department, explained that if the city can pass the health test, it will be open for the May long weekend (next weekend).

"We have added a lot of new mechanical upgrades to support the features that we have. This year,  there won't be anything tangible that people will be able to see."

According to the City of Airdrie, the park is located inside a fenced-off area and includes:

  • Two twist n' spill water toys
  • A splash blaster spiral
  • Ground sprays
  • Interactive tappin' tunes piano that plays music and sprays water
  • Discovery stream
  • Toddler water table
  • Four slides
  • Public washrooms and change rooms
  • 12 picnic tables and shade

"We're looking forward to a summer without water restrictions. We were kind of open and then closed and then open again last year."

The park reuses water after it is filtered and cleaned, which means that when the park is open, it may shut down for a few minutes every so often for maintenance.

"Residents are welcome to come and talk to the staff with any questions they might have.

Anderson concluded by saying the park is almost 15 years old now.
