Gerald Busch Obituary
1934 ~ 2025 (age 90)
A life well lived, a legacy well left.
With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Gerald Arthur Busch, age 90, on May 5, 2025 at Circle Drive Special Care Home in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He passed away in his sleep, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on November 2, 1934 in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan. Gerald was the eldest child of Art and Helen Busch and a beloved older brother to Lyle and Linda. He was raised near Superb, Saskatchewan, finishing most of his schooling there. He completed his Grade 12 education in Kerrobert in 1952 and graduated that year. In 1953, he enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan, where he earned a diploma in Vocational Agriculture, a field that would go on to profoundly influence his life.
Gerald returned to Superb to farm, where he embraced his love for the land. In 1959 he married the love of his life, Bonnie McNally, in Major, Saskatchewan. They built a life together grounded in devotion, resilience and love. In the early years they lived in a modest home without running water, where their first three children, Steven, Nancy and Gary, were born. By 1969 their family was complete with the arrival of Deanna, and they had settled into the home that would remain theirs for years to come.
Gerald grew up with a strong foundation rooted in hard work, faith and family. He spent most of his life on the land he loved farming with pride, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to the values he held dear to his heart. To Gerald farming wasn’t just an occupation but a way of life and he embraced every season with purpose and perseverance.
Gerald had a deep love for the skies as well as the soil. As a licensed pilot, he found great joy in flying his plane, often taking to the air to check his crops or attending pancake breakfasts hosted by the Flying Farmers Association. Those flights brought him a special sense of freedom and adventure that perfectly complemented his grounded life on the farm.
Gerald was a man of remarkable energy, talent, and character. Alongside farming, he pursued several careers including photography and selling Kenwood Chefs. He later became well known for his work with Frank Flaman, selling aeration bins and farm equipment, earning him the nickname “the Fanman.”
Deeply committed to his faith and community, Gerald was a proud and active member of the Anglican Church, the Masonic Lodge, Royal Arch, Order of the Eastern Star, Kinsmen, and the Shriners. Through these organizations, he made countless lifelong friends and gave generously of his time and talents.
In retirement, Gerald and Bonnie enjoyed spending their winters in Weslaco, Texas, where they found warmth, rest and community during the colder months.
In October 2019, after joyfully celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary, Gerald and Bonnie left their beloved family farm near Kerrobert and moved to Trinity Manor in Saskatoon. In March 2022, Gerald transitioned to Circle Drive Special Care Home, where he remained lovingly cared for until his final moments.
Known for his sharp wit, gentle spirit, and unwavering dedication, Gerald's presence left a lasting impression on everyone he met. His legacy of kindness, humour, and service will live on through the lives he touched.
Gerald is predeceased by his parents, Art and Helen Busch. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Bonnie, his children Steven (Julie), Nancy (Ron), Gary (Sharon), and Deanna (Kyle); 12 grandchildren—Matthew, Michelle, Tom, Kim, Tracey, Janelle, Mike, Miranda, Tyler, Dimitri, Ahna, and Daria—and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Lyle, sister-in-law Bonnah, and sister Linda.
