The Weyburn High School Rodeo is going this weekend at the Weyburn Agricultural Society's Exhibition grounds, with junior division competitions beginning at 8 a.m. and senior division competitions beginning at 12:30 both Saturday and Sunday.
Nicole Kmita said there are 188 competitors from across the province this year, from Grades 7 to 12.
"They're striving to get points so that they can attend the finals in a couple of weeks in Maple Creek at the end of the month, and then they're hoping that they are in the top 4 to get to go to nationals in Rock Springs, Wyoming this year."
Admission is $5, and for those who like to stay the day but need snacks, Kmita noted there will be a food truck on site and maybe an ice cream truck.
She said the event wouldn't be possible without their sponsors, Valleyview Petroleum, the title sponsor and supplier of a belt buckle for each competitor. The sponsors cover the costs of employing workers, timers, judges, announcers, pickup-man, bull-fighters, and stock, as well as an ambulance for both days.
The organization has a post thanking each sponsor on their Facebook page.
