James ‘Jim’ Gregory Korte
May 28, 1949 – May 8, 2025
It is with great sadness the family of James ‘Jim’ Gregory Korte announce his peaceful passing with his family by his side, after a courageous journey with Alzheimer’s disease. He was 75 years of age. Jim was born on May 28, 1949, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Humboldt, Saskatchewan to Joseph and Beatrice (née Cales) Korte. Growing up in Muenster, SK, Jim married Janice Campell on October 6, 1973, and together they built a loving home and family there as well. Jim spent most of his career as a printer at Graphic Arts Printing in Humboldt, working alongside his brother Dennis and sister-in-law Vyenda. Beyond his work, he gave tirelessly to his community. In 2019, his lifelong dedication was honoured when the Village of Muenster named the local ball field 'James Korte Field' in his name. He loved gardening, fishing, sports, music, and gathering with his family—especially at the annual sausage-making weekend each November, a 34-year Korte family tradition rich with laughter, stories, and Southern Comfort toasts in memory of his father, Joe. Jim moved to St. Mary’s Villa, Humboldt, SK in 2021, where he received four years of compassionate care. The family thanks the staff for their kindness and support. Jim was a kind, generous, and humble soul. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy admired by his children, grandchildren, and community. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Janice; their family: Garret (Juanine) Korte, their children- Morgan (Derek), Abbie, and Adam; Jesse (Leah) Korte, their children - Jeter, Alida, and Ava; Amy (Marty) Yeager, their children - Merek, Sully, and Maddix; his siblings: Melvin (Marie), Dennis (Vyenda), MaryAnn Scherr, Loretta Dauk, Gerard (Margaret), and Tony (Linda); brother-in-law Dale (Jane) Campell; along with many beloved nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his infant daughter Renea, parents Beatrice and Joseph, father and mother-in-law Kenneth Campell and Alida Unseth, stepfather-in-law Palmer Unseth, and his brothers-in-law Fred Dauk and Art Scherr. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Cathedral, Muenster, SK on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 10:30 am, celebrated by Fr. Lawrence DeMong, OSB. Others taking part were: Sully Yeager, cross bearer; Abbie Korte and Jeter Korte, scripture readers; Adam Korte, intentions; Sully Yeager and Ava Korte, gift bearers; and Morgan Korte and Merek Yeager, eulogists.
