The 2025 WHL Prospects Draft took place this past week, as the Regina Pats selected phenom and hometown boy Maddox Schultz with the first overall pick. The league used Wednesday for the first round and then completed the draft Thursday with rounds 2-15, taking place after an expansion draft for the new franchise out of Penticton and U.S Priority Draft.

There were a few notable local picks in the draft, including a native of Consort, Alberta going in the first round. Defenseman Will Kelts was taken #20 overall by the Kelowna Rockets after playing with the Northern Alberta Xtreme U15 Prep this past season. Kelts had 39 points in 35 games with the U15 prep team, and four points in three games getting the call up to U18.

At #40 overall the Prince George Cougars selected defenseman Anderson Reschny, brother of Victoria Royals superstar Cole Reschny, who played this past season with OHA Edmonton U15 Prep. Reschny finished over a point per game with 38 points (9 goals, 29 assists) in 36 games. Reschny also cracked the Sask First U15 Top 34 roster and will try to crack Team Saskatchewan during tryouts this summer.

Other semi-local selections include Hague's Bergen Walker taken one pick before Reschny at #39 by the Prince Albert Raiders, Jett Prpich from Kenaston who was taken by the Moose Jaw Warriors at #94 overall, and goalie Josh Benjamin from Gull Lake who was taken by Calgary at pick #223.

35 Saskatchewan born players in total were selected in this year's prospects draft.
