Dr. Pamela Arnold of Regina has been elected president of the Saskatchewan Medical Association (SMA), becoming the organization’s 59th president.

Arnold was chosen by physician delegates during the SMA’s 2025 Spring Representative Assembly, held Friday at Saskatoon’s Sheraton Cavalier. She succeeds Dr. Andre Grobler of Prince Albert and will serve a one-year term.

“I am humbled that the physicians of Saskatchewan have entrusted me with this honour,” said Arnold. “My main goal as SMA president is for members to feel that they have been heard, that their issues are valid, and that they feel valued.”

Arnold emphasized her commitment to being accessible to the province’s doctors and advocating on their behalf with government and health care stakeholders.

A top priority for her term is supporting the continued revitalization of family medicine, a focus of the current 2022–26 agreement with the provincial government. Arnold said approximately 80 per cent of eligible physicians have opted into the agreement’s Transitional Payment Model, and 34 projects have received funding through the $10-million Innovation Fund.

“The doctors of Saskatchewan were invited to come forward with their ideas for innovation, and I am proud to say they have answered the call,” Arnold said.

Physician health and wellness will also be a key focus during her presidency.

“Physician health doesn’t just mean meditation or resilience training,” Arnold said. “It also means working in a health system that operates seamlessly for physicians and their patients, utilizing the latest technologies and innovations.”

Born and raised in Saskatchewan, Arnold has lived in several communities across the province and currently works as a Critical Care Associate in Regina. She holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Regina and earned her medical degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 2007.

Arnold has been active in SMA governance since 2015 as a representative for Regina and has served on the SMA Board of Directors since 2019.

“I love my job,” she said. “I am so privileged to make a positive difference in the lives of patients and their families, often during one of the most difficult periods of their lives.”

Also during the Spring RA, the Canadian Medical Association awarded honorary membership to Dr. Guruswamy Sridhar of Regina, who served as SMA president from 2010 to 2011 and has held numerous roles within both the SMA and CMA, including chair of the Medical Compensation Review Committee.

The SMA is a voluntary, member-based professional association that represents physicians, medical students and residents in Saskatchewan. It serves as the provincial chapter of the Canadian Medical Association.
