Several grass fires have kept Winnipeg fire crews busy Monday morning.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to three grass fires in different areas of the city, including Whittier Park, the 2900 block of McPhillips Street and the 1100 block of Logan Avenue.

Crews were able to contain and extinguish the fires quickly. However, they are reminding Winnipeggers that a fire ban remains in effect for the city of Winnipeg.

"With very hot, dry and windy conditions forecast over the next few days, it’s important that residents abide by the ban and take precautions to prevent fires," said the WFPS in a press release.

The ban prohibits Winnipeggers from having open fires, using backyard fire pits, fireworks, fire pits in city parks and fuel-burning appliances, including charcoal and wood-burning barbecues.

Anyone who does not follow this ban could be faced with a $500 fine.

Violations of this ban are subject to a $500 fine.

The ban will remain in place until Monday, May 19, at 6 p.m.
