Gregory John Gerolamy
December 16, 1952 – May 6, 2025
Early on May 6th, 2025, Gregory John Gerolamy, aged 72 years, passed away in the Palliative Care ward of Boundary Trails Health Center in Morden, MB. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ruth (nee Loewen), daughters Tanya (Mike) and Tenille (Ashley), all those to whom he was a brother-in-law, uncle & great-uncle and his four-legged buddy Tucker. He was predeceased by his parents Jerry & Leona Gerolamy, his sister Lynne Cox and parents-in-law Henry & Betty Loewen.
Greg was born on December 16th, 1952 in Dryden, Ont. The Gerolamys moved to Emerson, MB where Greg and Lynne spent their childhood. In his younger years he loved sports, playing baseball and hockey in town. He joined the Canadian Army Cadets as a kid and was a proud and active member until adulthood.
He started his career with CP Rail right out of high school and enjoyed his employment there. He welcomed his daughters in 1980 & 1983 and continued to enjoy life in Emerson. Later he transferred to the CP Rail office in Winnipeg and retired at the age of 53. As a retiree, he worked for Halcon Ventures in Emerson and after moving to Morden, worked at Canadian Tire in Winkler. He loved coming home from work to tell Ruth or the girls about the jokes he’d told, the new people he’d had a good chat with, or the good deals he had found that day.
Outside of work, Greg enjoyed lots of different pastimes throughout the years. He loved to buy, sell & trade cars and motorcycles. There were endless good times spent fishing, boating, and being with family at Longbow Lake. He loved archery and camping, often spending weekends across the border with his family and friends for archery tournaments. Both he and Ruth collected countless trophies. Ruth’s for best scores, and sometimes Greg’s were hilariously for, the worst. Greg also loved leatherwork. He made beautiful gifts for Ruth, his kids, and anyone who wanted a personalized bracelet or coffee holder. He brought smiles to many faces with his handywork.
Later on he picked up golf. He and Ruth spent many nights and weekends at the Emerson Golf Course playing in tournaments with friends. He also spent many early mornings out there collecting golf balls from water hazards that he’d give (most) back to the golf course to sell. He thought you’d never believe how many golf balls he’d found; new records all the time. Dad loved going for a drive. Whether it be with Ruth on his Harley, to a casino for the weekend, or a family vacation out of province. When his daughters were young they’d take many early morning drives down the gravel roads looking for deer to count, and then heading to Pembina for breakfast, while mom slept in.
He could always be called on to help his girls with home or yard projects or help out with his grand-dogs, whom he loved very much. He took care of his mom and dad as they spent their final years in Morden close by. He and his dad spent endless hours playing cribbage for quarters. Both of them scoring 29, the perfect hand, at least once. Greg will be remembered for his kindness, going out of his way for others, and for the best Dad jokes.
Dad, Greg, we will miss you forever. Your unconditional love and support for us all will never be forgotten. Your wit and often ill-timed jokes will live on through your children and will keep us smiling for the rest of our years.
The family would like to thank the staff at Boundary Trails, HSC, CancerCare MB, all the medical staff who’ve had a hand in helping us and Dad through this journey. We especially would like to acknowledge those who cared for Greg in Palliative Care. Thank you for the kindness you’ve shown our Dad and our family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, or to the Pembina Valley Humane Society. A private service will be held at a later date.
