The Government of Saskatchewan has proclaimed May 11 to 17 as Women Entrepreneurs Week, recognizing the growing contributions of women-led businesses to the province’s economy.

“Women are making significant contributions in every sector of our economy,” said Alana Ross, minister responsible for the Status of Women. “Each May, our government is proud to partner with Women Entrepreneurs of Saskatchewan (WESK) to celebrate the innovation, resilience and success of women-led businesses that are helping to build a strong Saskatchewan.”

The week aims to highlight not only the achievements of women entrepreneurs but also the partnerships that help support them, including long-standing organizations such as WESK. The non-profit has spent nearly three decades offering women access to business advising, financing, mentorship, training and networking opportunities.

“Women entrepreneurs are not only helping shape Saskatchewan’s business community — they are a driving force behind its economic growth,” said WESK CEO Miriam Johnson. “With 21 per cent of private sector businesses majority-owned by women, their contributions are creating jobs, building local economies, and strengthening communities across the province. At WESK, we are proud to continue supporting women at every stage of business, and we are honoured to celebrate their innovation, leadership, and impact during Women Entrepreneurs Week.”

According to the province, 21 per cent of Saskatchewan’s private sector businesses are now majority owned by women. Officials say this growing number reflects both the entrepreneurial spirit of Saskatchewan residents and the success of support networks.

“Our government is proud to see women entrepreneurship in Saskatchewan continue to grow and thrive,” said Trade and Export Development Minister Warren Kaeding. “During this week, it is important to recognize the significant contributions women entrepreneurs have made to Saskatchewan’s economy through job creation, support for their communities and creating opportunities for all those who call this province home.”

The province says it will continue offering programs and incentives aimed at building a strong, competitive business environment.
