Legendary horse wrangler for the stars and stunt coordinator on countless movies since the 70s, John Scott, is hopping off his horse and picking up a microphone.
This Friday, May 16, he will be the featured speaker at the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum down in Amarillo, Texas.
In between working on another film, he's been invited to share his stories during what they're calling 'From Set to Saddle with John Scott'.
"Yes, I'm heading down to the quarter horse association convention to talk mostly about horses in the motion picture business. The horse community is a great community. The horse business is a million-dollar business, and with all aspects."
Scott says the quarter horse is very versatile and dominates the rodeo world.
"You've got barrel racing, you've got breakaway roping, you've got roping, bulldogging, all the rodeo events. And then just general pleasure trail horses, so quarter horses cover a wide variety of things. Most of the cutting horses, the big-name cutting horses and the bloodlines do come from the Quarter Horse Association."
Scott will be sharing his vast knowledge with the eager audience of like-minded horse lovers.
"The Quarter Horse Association started in 1941, about 33 people got together. The King Ranch had the real good horses, and they had two horses that went to the Fort Worth livestock show, and a horse came out of there called 'Wimpy', and he beat out the other horse, so Wimpy became the number one quarter horse in the journal, when they opened it up. It's now the largest equine horse registration in the world. And there's something like 96,000 foals that they registered last year."
Scott and the Scott Ranch are largely responsible for building up the film industry across Western Canada. His ranch currently has nearly 100 trained horse actors and stunt performers.
