Micah Griffin, a grade 12 student at Koinonia Christian School, won first place in a nationwide video contest.
He found out a few weeks after discovering he had won at the provincial level.
According to Chinook's Edge School Division, SafeGen, which is a part of CAREERS the Next Generation, ran the competition. To compete, students had to submit a safety video they created themselves.
One of his teachers encouraged Griffin to join. He was automatically entered at the national level due to his victory at the provincial level.
“I was proud that I made something that ended up being recognized as first in Canada, and was pretty thrilled to get that extra cash. I’m gonna buy another camera since I’ve been using the same one for 3 or 4 years, so it will be good to get an upgrade,” stated Griffin

"Thanks to Mrs. McCracken for introducing me to the contest and to my friend Rylan for his willingness to be my main actor.”
In addition to the $2,500 he received for winning the provincial competition, Griffin will also receive a $2,500 award for winning the national tournament. Additionally, his school will get $2,000 on top of the $1,000 they were given following the provincial tournament.
"We were all so excited for Micah,” says Cherie Sanche, Principal of OKCS. “This is a significant achievement, and it will be encouraging to him as he continues to develop his tremendous talent. We are glad we've been able to get to know Micah in our school community, and we are cheering for him as he moves into his future!"

The school division has 12 schools in neighbouring communities, including Olds, Mountain View County, Didsbury and Carstairs. Chinook's Edge has a total of 11,000 students across 40 Central Alberta schools.
