Moose Jaw Community Clean-Up Day on May 10, 2025 (City of Moose Jaw)
Categories

The first semi-annual Community Clean-Up Day was held last Saturday, and city officials thanked everyone who participated for helping to make Moose Jaw a cleaner, more attractive city.

“The weather was beautiful,” Councillor Heather Eby, who is chair of the City of Moose Jaw Clean-Up Committee. “So, first thank-you goes to the weatherman, because it was great. And I really need to thank the Moose Jaw Co-op.

“I've been part of Clean-Up Day for a number of years, but I've never been part of the setup and the takedown and all that, and Moose Jaw Co-op just supplied everything that we needed. They open the door, and they've got a BBQ, utensils, tables, chairs, everything. And it’s just so easy, and they make it so good — they’re a true community partner, and of course they sponsored the BBQ, which was great.”

Eby also thanked Purposed Financial donated their parking lot space as a staging area for the day. She said many city staffers came out to help with the clean-up, including several city councillors, and she particularly thanked Craig Hemingway and Jesse Watamanuk for helping to organize things throughout the day. Councillor Chris Warren helped with the grilling.

Nearly 170 registered volunteers helped to clean up more than a metric tonne of garbage from ditches, roadsides, lots, and parks across Moose Jaw, and a few more people who didn’t register also pitched in.

“It was a success,” said City Manager Maryse Carmichael. “We had 167 people show up to help with the clean-up, and we collected 1.2 tonnes of waste.

“It makes a big difference. We’ll have another Community Clean-Up in September. Between now and then, I encourage everyone to keep our city looking as beautiful as we can. Let’s put garbage in the trash, not on the (streets).”
