A Steinbach church continues to ask for prayer as a wildfire closes in on a Bible camp they run.

Bird River Bible Camp was evacuated Monday afternoon as the fire drew closer to their site.

In a post made to Facebook late Tuesday, Southland Church announced that the fire was around 1km away from the camp.

"Please continue to pray," said the church on Facebook. "The Fire is approximately 1km away from the camp and is moving in quickly. Your continued prayer for the camp is much needed."

They are also asking for prayer for cottagers, homeowners and businesses in the community, for their loss and uncertainty that they may have.

"We also want to continue to pray for the safety of all the first responders! We are trusting in God’s sovereignty!"

Hot, dry conditions have led to a very busy start to the wildfire season in Manitoba. Cooler, wet weather is expected later this week, with rain and potential flurries in the forecast.

The province says any closures or evacuations will remain in place until conditions have improved.
