Police have recovered the bodies of two adults, believed to have died as the result of wildfires in the Rural Municipality of Lac du Bonnet.

On Wednesday at approximately 9:15 am, Lac du Bonnet RCMP recovered two bodies, believed to be an adult male and adult female, just off Wendigo Road. It is believed that both adults succumbed to injuries sustained in the wildfire.

RCMP were made aware on Tuesday that these individuals were trapped in the fire. However, due to extreme conditions, emergency personnel were not able to reach their location until Wednesday.

An autopsy will be completed to confirm the identity of the victims.

Police say there are currently no additional reports of unaccounted people related to the Lac du Bonnet wildfire.

The area continues to be an active fire area and RCMP officers including Manitoba RCMP Search and Rescue Unit, are on scene.

Police continue to be at three checkpoints along Provincial Road 313 to ensure that only emergency vehicles are allowed into the active fire zone.

RCMP would also like to remind people that the area around the fire zone is a restricted air space, and the use of drones is not permitted, as it significantly impedes the work of all air support fighting the fire.

Lac du Bonnet RCMP continue to investigate.
