The Rural Municipality of Piney has now issued an evacuation order for the townsite of Woodridge as the wildfire known as EA057 continues to spread.
Crews worked to notify residents shortly after the notice was issued at 7:20 Wednesday evening.
The townsite of Badger was evacuated late Wednesday afternoon, and Carrick, St. Labre, and Florze were all evacuated on Tuesday.
Until now, the Woodridge Community Centre has acted as the reception centre for evacuees, making sure everyone is accounted for, providing meals, and ensuring that everyone has a place to stay.
However, now that Woodridge is also being evacuated, the reception site has been moved ot the Piney Community Centre at 5017 Highway 89 in Piney. All evacuees are asked to check in at that location.
Following the Woodridge evacuation order, some rain rolled through the area leading some residents to believe the order may be cancelled. According to officials, this is not the case.
A notice was issued at 10:35 p.m. says “The evacuation order for the townsite of Woodridge will stay in effect overnight and until further notice, despite the rain we have received. The rain was confined to a small area and did not amount to a quantity that would stop the fire.”
