The City of Moose Jaw’s 2025 Summer Recreation Guide is now available and features a wide variety activities, camps and programs for residents of all ages. Recreation Services Manager, Scott Osmachenko, says this year’s guide is chock full of programs, with a special focus on popular activities for children and teenagers.
“Probably the biggest thing that everyone looks for is the children’s programs related to the Yara Centre Summer Day Camps,” he explained.
“The rec guide also has the summer swim schedule, which is also a big aspect of a lot of people’s summer.”
Osmachenko noted that while the outdoor pool is opening on June 16 — a little later than usual— but will remain open through August 29 to accommodate.
“We wanted to make sure people still got a full summer at the pool, even with the slightly delayed start.”
He noted that the outdoor pool opening coincides with the shutdown of the Kinsmen Sportsplex pools for annual maintenance, which will reopen on Monday, July 7.
The Yara Centre will be undergoing some upgrades this year, and those upgrades are set to be installed in the very near future.
“The Yara Centre turf and track will be closed effective Tuesday, May 21, as we install new turf. That’s going to be very exciting,” he said, emphasizing that parts of the facility will remain open during renovations.
“The second-floor fitness centre gymnasium is still open for anyone to use it to go lift weights or use the cardio machines up there.”
He added that fitness classes typically held on the turf will temporarily move to the Golden Ticket Sports Centre while work is underway, with plans to reopen the track and turf by June 30th .
The Student Super Summer pass is also making a return this summer, and Osmachenko and his team have been working closely with City Transit to eliminate the primary barriers to participation faced by the city’s youth.
“What we've done is we've put together a very special rate for youth to access not only a recreation pass, so they can come here to the Yara Centre, go to the outdoor pool, the indoor pool, but also use city transit as a special rate just for the summer,” Osmachenko explained.
“It's only $95, which is a great discount to get all those benefits for two months. Starting in June, we'll be selling those passes and encouraging anyone between the ages of 13 and 17 to have a great summer by accessing that pass.”
The City’s spray park season is also getting underway shortly, and the specific dates and times they will be operational are included.
“The one thing that is always exciting is that the spray parks are going to be open,” said Osmachenko.
“In the guide you'll see that they're scheduled to open on Friday, May 30th and they'll be open for regular hours starting that day. So that's one thing to look forward to. They are free and they're open daily.”
