Red River College Polytech’s Portage Campus is hosting an Info Night on Thursday, May 15, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

This free event provides a great opportunity for the community to explore the campus, discover career-building programs, and learn about available opportunities.

Visitors will have the chance to attend back-to-back information sessions highlighting three in-demand programs: Introduction to Food Manufacturing, Health Care Aide, and the newly launched IT Operations.

Three key program highlights

RRC Polytech is showcasing three distinct programs that cater to diverse career paths.

  • Introduction to Food Manufacturing: Learn the technical skills needed to excel in the food processing industry, including equipment operation, workplace safety, and industry-standard documentation.

  • Health Care Aide: This program prepares students to support patients in personal care homes, hospitals, or at home, assisting with daily activities, emotional care, and medical treatment under the supervision of nurses.

  • IT Operations: A new addition to the campus, this program focuses on the tech skills needed to support businesses, from network administration and hardware management to cloud services and technical support.

As part of the info night, attendees will also have the chance to speak with instructors, ask questions, and learn more about the hands-on learning opportunities RRC Polytech provides.

Explore the campus and facilities

In addition to the program information sessions, visitors will be able to tour the campus and check out various facilities.

Rachel Templeton, office manager at Portage Campus, highlights the chance to explore the Prairie Project space, which features 3D printers, engravers, and other cutting-edge tools.

For a more relaxed experience, attendees can also take a stroll through the gym or enjoy some snacks.

“There’ll be some semi-formal presentations going on for that as well as some door prize draws for some Red River College Polytech swag, some snacks and also some tours,” she explained.

Talk to staff and discover other programs

Though the focus is on three specific programs, attendees are welcome to inquire about a wider range of offerings at the Portage campus. In addition to the featured programs, visitors can also learn about other courses, such as early childhood education and business administration.

Important dates and flexible learning options

For those interested in applying, Templeton confirms that the next intake for many programs begins in late August or early September.

Whether you’re interested in full-time, part-time, or online options, the Portage campus offers flexible learning formats to suit different needs.

“Some of them are hybrid, some of them are in person as well as online. Some of them are all in person,” explained Templeton.

Templeton also emphasizes the convenience of studying locally: “For sure it is a huge benefit because it obviously reduces down on any travel that a student may have to do if they have to go into a larger center.”

Why attend the info night?

RRC Polytech’s Portage campus offers a welcoming environment for students from the local community. Templeton explains that staying close to home while pursuing higher education reduces costs and helps students stay connected to their local support systems.

“It allows the student to be able to possibly still live at home,” says Templeton. “So that reduces the expense of that as well as still being able to be near their peers or their natural supports.”

The Info Night provides an excellent opportunity to learn more about the programs, ask questions, and see firsthand what RRC Polytech can offer.

The event is free and open to anyone interested in exploring career pathways, gaining new skills, or continuing education in a variety of fields.
