With the May long weekend approaching, the City of Airdrie is offering a low-cost option to get rolling: adult bikes for $20, youth bikes for $10.
The seasonal sale is part of the city’s reuse program and runs from early May through the end of September at the Airdrie Recycle Depot.
"The bike program is offered so residents may enjoy bikes at an affordable cost," the city said. "Resale for profit is not the intent of the program and is not permitted."
Bikes are sold as is and may be either donated or recovered. The city does not inspect the bikes and assumes no responsibility for their condition.
"All sales are final," the city stated. "The purchaser, by paying the nominal fee, waives any rights or claims against the City and becomes solely responsible."
According to the city, donated bikes must be in good working condition. Staff also reserve the right to refuse sales at their discretion.
Only debit and credit payments are accepted—no cash.
The city holds recovered bikes for a minimum of 30 days to allow time for owners to reclaim them. If unclaimed, those bikes are added to the sale inventory.
"Bike stolen or lost? Contact Waste & Recycling Services with a description to see if we have recovered your bike," the city said.
