A couple in West Hawk Lake are holding to hope as they are evacuated from the area due to a wildfire.

"Things are looking fine on our end, like the south," says TJ Harder, co-owner of Tallpine Lodges in the area.

He says on Wednesday night, a lot of smoke blew in, but otherwise it's been relatively normal—aside from, of course, an evacuation order the province recently put out.

Sacha Harder, TJ's wife and co-owner of Tallpine Lodges, says they're trying to prioritize what they take with them as they leave.

"Our children have a very interesting list of things that they're taking, including things I have not seen them use in a year, but we've pared that down. We're just taking essential things that can't be replaced, obviously identification and whatnot," she says.

"But yeah, that's pretty much it."

She says the fire can't be seen from the lodge, but it certainly has a presence.

"Across the lake at night, you can see the orange," she describes.

The pair have had to cancel bookings for Thursday, and for the May long weekend, they say, but customer's have been understanding.

In there nearly 12 years doing business in the area, this is the first time they say they've been evacuated.

"We're trying to stay positive. In my mind right now, you don't think anything is going to happen because the fire is further away. But, at the same time, its super dry and things can change in an instant," Sacha says.

"We're just trying to stay calm and do our thing, and hope for the best."
