A 17-year-old pedestrian was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle while using a marked crosswalk on Airdrie’s 8 Street Thursday morning, according to a written statement from Airdrie RCMP to DiscoverAirdrie.
In response to questions from DiscoverAirdrie, RCMP said they received the call at 7:41 a.m. The vehicle was making a legal left-hand turn when it struck the pedestrian. EMS previously confirmed the incident occurred near Bayside Boulevard S.W.

Police said the driver remained on scene and was cooperative. The driver has been charged under the Traffic Safety Act (TSA) for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
Alberta Health Services Emergency Medical Services (EMS) previously confirmed the pedestrian was transported to Foothills Medical Centre in stable condition by ground ambulance.
Emergency responders, including fire, police and EMS, were seen near the Tim Hortons, according to a witness. At least one southbound lane was temporarily blocked. The scene was later cleared, and traffic resumed.
RCMP confirmed that all involved parties remained at the scene and cooperated with first responders.
