The Rural Municipality of Piney says Wednesday night's rain was not enough to ease any evacuation orders.

Evacuation notices have been issued and completed for the following locations:

  • South side of Whitemouth Lake Road near the townsite of Florze from Road 65E to 68E
  • The townsite of Carrick & area
  • The townsite of St. Labre & area
  • The townsite of Badger & area
  • The townsite of Woodridge & area

The municipality says that a reception centre has been set up at the Piney Community Centre for all evacuees. The Centre is located at 5017 Highway 89 in Piney. There are staff and volunteers there supplying food and refreshments for all evacuees throughout the day.

The reception centre is open for anyone who needs a place to spend the day. If lodging is needed, evacuees are asked to speak to the ladies at the reception centre or to call the RM office.

The Piney Hall Reception Centre contact number is 204-423-2332 and the RM of Piney office contact number is 204-437-2284.

Meanwhile, as of Thursday morning, the fire has reached 7,886 hectares in size. Woodridge received 1.8 millimetres of rain Wednesday night, which helped but is still not enough to lift any evacuation orders. The municipality says no additional structures have been lost in the fire.

The fire remains 3.5 kilometres away from the townsite of Woodridge and has decreased to a Class 1-2, from Class 5-6, which it was yesterday.

The fire is 1.3 kilometres away from the townsite of Badger.

Heavy machinery and helicopter buckets are working non-stop building fire guards in the areas Manitoba Wildfire Services feels are necessary.
