The new Coteau Hills Elementary School received a significant boost for new playground equipment, thanks to the South Hill Community Association.
During a recent Prairie South School Division Board of Education meeting, the community association presented a cheque for $5,000 to go toward the playground.
“We are looking forward to when the new school opens. We know it’s really exciting, and we’ve been watching it as it develops. We’re very excited and very happy to bring this cheque today,” said Crystal Froese from the South Hill Community Association.
Board chair Giselle Wilson thanked the community association for their contribution.
“On behalf of the Board of Education and Prairie South, thank you to the South Hill Community Association for your hard work. Five thousand dollars is a lot of money and not easy to raise, so we appreciate your commitment to our new school,” she said.
The new joint-use school being built on South Hill is expected to be completed this fall, in time for the 2025–26 school year.
Coteau Hills Elementary School will replace Westmount and Empire schools for the Prairie South School Division.
The Holy Trinity Catholic School Division side of the school will be known as Our Lady of Hope and will replace Sacred Heart and St. Mary’s schools.
The playground equipment has been tendered out to Madera Playscapes for $365,053, and it will be a 50/50 cost split between the two school divisions.
