Despite the recent rain, fire advisories and restrictions are still in effect for municipalities across much of Southern Alberta.
If you’re planning on camping for the Victoria Day long weekend, there are a few fire advisories to be cautious of.
Foothills County
Foothills County has moved to a Fire Advisory, allowing safe residential fire pits, campground campfires, wood pellet smokers, and gas or propane barbecues.
Advisories do not apply to Okotoks or High River.
Vulcan County
Vulcan County is currently under a Fire Restriction.
The restriction allows for gas or propane stoves, barbeques, portable propane fire pits, and safe campfires in campgrounds and on private property.
Campfires or charcoal briquettes are not allowed on provincial land within the county or on grazing lease land.
Municipal District of Willow Creek
The MD of Willow Creek is under a Fire Advisory, allowing recreational campfires, incinerators, and burn barrels.
Burning is not permitted when winds exceed 25 km/h or are gusting.
There must always be an adequate supply of water on-site, and the fire must be fully extinguished once the burning is complete.
Bragg Creek Provincial Park
Bragg Creek Provincial Park is under a Fire Ban.
All open fires, including campfires, charcoal briquettes, and all wood fires inside park facilities are prohibited.
However, portable propane fire pits contained within designated fire pits, along with gas or propane stoves and barbeques designed for cooking or heating are permitted.
Banff National Park
A Fire Restriction is in effect for Banff National Park.
Campfires are only permitted in designated Parks Canada metal fire rings or boxes.
Waterton Lakes National Park
The park is under a Fire Restriction.
Campfires are only permitted in designated Parks Canada metal fire rings or boxes.
To enjoy a campfire in a national park, visitors are asked to keep campfires small and only in designated areas, never leave the campfire unattended, and ensure it’s completely extinguished.
