The wildfire burning in the Rural Municipality of Piney is now 50 percent contained, according to the latest update from the RM of Piney. 

Crews continue to battle hot spots along Fireguard 14, with efforts focused on securing the northeast line near Badger and extending lines near St. Labre and Whitemouth Lake Road. 

Manitoba Wildfire Service confirmed that three structures have been lost so far as a result of the fire, that was confirmed 8,904 hectares. 

The evacuation order remains in effect for the affected areas. 

A reception centre has been set up at the Piney Community Center for evacuees, offering food, refreshments, and information regarding lodging. The contact number for the centre is 204-423-2332. The RM of Piney Evacuation Line can be reached at 204-905-3143. 

Firefighters are expected to continue working through the long weekend as they aim to prevent further spread and protect nearby properties.
