A 43-year-old local man faces multiple charges, including refusing a roadside breath demand, following a two-vehicle collision at a major intersection last week.

On May 10, 2025, just after 4:00 p.m., Portage la Prairie RCMP, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and the Portage la Prairie Fire Department responded to a crash at Highway 1 and Yellowquill Trail. Evidence gathered at the scene prompted officers to request a breath sample from one of the drivers using a roadside screening device.

The driver, a Portage la Prairie resident, refused to comply with the demand. He was arrested for Refuse to Provide Breath Sample under the Criminal Code and later released with a scheduled court appearance. Additionally, he was issued provincial offence tickets for failing to stop at a stop sign and carrying liquor in a vehicle.

Both drivers involved in the collision were transported to a local hospital as a precaution. No serious injuries were reported.

The accused is set to appear in court at a later date.
