This year's Bert Church High School Valedictorian is Reese Ochitwa.
She is excited to garner the role and shared that she has been working her four years of high school for this honour.
"I knew I wanted to be it (valedictorian) as soon as I got to high school. I'm excited and I'm honoured to be selected by the staff."
She explained that she had to detail all of her leadership opportunities, initiatives she started and how she is a part of the community as part of the process.
"I'm a volunteer at the Airdrie Food Bank, Airdrie Public Library. I'm a member of the Youth Volunteer Corps, and I'm also on the Airdrie Board of Youth Affairs. Within the school, I'm a part of the leadership team, and I do a lot with the culinary team."

Ochitwa started the Bert Church coding club earlier this year. She went on to talk about what her message is to her fellow graduates.
"Take the lessons that we've learned in high school, take that resilience and perseverance and take it into your future, no matter what you're doing, and make the world a better place."
After high school, she will be attending Dalhousie University in Halifax for computer science after receiving the Schulich Leaders Scholarship worth $100,000.
She concluded by thanking everybody who helped her along the way over the past four years.
The Bert Church High School graduation ceremony is taking place tonight at Genesis Place.
