George McDogall High School's 2025 Valedictorian is Hailey McDonough.
She shared that she was shocked to learn that she would garner the role.
"When I found out, I was so excited and shocked, like, my legs were shaking. All of the other applicants were amazing. I'm proud of my grad class; any one of us could have won, so I'm just really fortunate."
She went on to talk about the school's process to select the Valedictorian.
"It was a two-step application. The first was just to see if you meet the criteria with your school involvements and grades. You need a teacher recommendation and a community recommendation. But once you made it past that step, you just had a quick interview with the panel."
According to McDonough, she is a part of the leadership class at the school.
"I do the morning announcements every other day. I'm part of the student council as well. I do leadership outside of school in this academy called RVSLA (Rocky View Schools Leadership Academy), so it's just like a district-wide leadership class. I volunteer at the Airdrie Public Library regularly."
She explained that she is proud of her fellow graduates and is pleased with how they have grown over the previous four years.
"We should all be excited and fortunate to be able to walk the stage on Friday all together.
Some of the fondest memories she has over her four years at George McDougall include "Ride of the Mustangs" and hosting pep rallies.
After high school, she plans to pursue a Bachelor of Science with Honours, majoring in Chemistry at the University of Alberta. Her goal is to work in forensic chemistry or in a research or analytical role.
The George McDougall graduation ceremony is taking place tonight at Genesis Place.
