On May 16, several Little Brothers and Sisters from the Portage area had the opportunity to attend a professional basketball game at Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg thanks to the Winnipeg Sea Bears.

The Sea Bears came away with a 92-89 extra time victory over Edmonton in the team's first game of the season.

Among those attending was 12-year-old Levi Harper.

"My favourite part was the part at the end," he explained. "The game kept going on but they took all the time off. The first team to 92 points won the game."

This wasn't Levi's first time attending a pro basketball game as he was able make the trip a couple of years ago with Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Levi plays a lot of basketball with his friends, and hopes to follow in the footsteps of his favourite player LeBron James of the LA Lakers.

Overall, he gave the experience a 9.8 out of 10.

"I had a fun time," remarked Levi.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Plains executive director Dawn Froese says the organization currently has about 10 kids on their waiting list, who are hoping to be matched with a mentor.
