Rocky View County Fire Services has lifted its fire advisory for the western region of the county due to improving conditions.

On Thursday afternoon, the County confirmed that effective immediately, there are no fire advisories or bans in the West region, and permit burning is allowed.

The fire advisory remains in effect for East Rocky View County. The County stated that fire permits will not be issued for any fires in the East region, and neighbouring municipalities may still have advisories or bans in place.

“We will continue to monitor conditions and fire risk throughout the County and may update the status as needed,” Rocky View County Fire Services stated.

“Although conditions have changed with the recent precipitation, we ask for the public’s continued assistance in remaining vigilant when burning under what restrictions allow. If conditions change, the County will continue to assess the fire risk and may impose a fire ban at any time.”

Environment Canada issues second consecutive frost advisory

Environment Canada issued a frost advisory Thursday afternoon for Rocky View County near Airdrie and Crossfield, marking the second consecutive night of below-zero risk in the region.

The advisory, posted at 3:33 p.m. MDT, warns that overnight temperatures are forecast to reach the freezing mark, with patchy frost expected and fog patches developing.

“Cover up plants, especially those in frost-prone areas. Take preventative measures to protect frost-sensitive plants and trees,” the advisory stated.

Tonight’s local forecast from Environment Canada calls for partly cloudy skies, a 30 per cent chance of showers this evening with risk of a thunderstorm, and clearing before morning. The low is expected to fall to zero, with patchy frost.

Frost may return Friday night, with a projected low of plus one and evening clearing.

Daytime highs are expected to rise over the weekend, with 17°C forecast for Friday, 22°C Saturday, and 26°C Sunday.
