Things are warming up and t-shirt weather has returned to the Moose Jaw area again, just in time for the weekend.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada meteorologist, Steven Berg, clear skies and sunshine are in the forecast as temperatures rise to those more typical of late May in Saskatchewan.

“It looks should be pretty seasonal—maybe a bit above seasonal for Sunday—but looks to be pretty sunny through the weekend and then much of the week ahead, with quite a warming trend,” said Berg.

“After tonight it looks to be a little bit more comfortable, and we’re moving away from worrying about any sort of frost issues with low temperatures in the upper single digits and maybe into the lower double digits—a lot different than the last few mornings.”

The forecast for the next five days stands in stark contrast to conditions seen over the past week, with temperatures set to rise steadily going forward.

“The normal high for this time of year is 21 degrees with a low of seven. So, the weekend looks to be very close to normal, maybe a sliver below tomorrow, but a bit above on Sunday,” said Berg.

“Towards the mid part of the week we’re getting into the five to 10 degrees above the normal values—certainly a bit of a temperature spike by late in the week and then then to the towards next weekend as well.”

Daytime highs are on track to be well into the mid-20s throughout next week, with sunshine throughout and highs of 25 on Sunday, 24 on Monday and Tuesday, and a balmy 26 on Wednesday.

According to current models, these conditions aren’t going anywhere quickly.

“It certainly looks like more shorts and t-shirt weather for the week ahead. There doesn't look like there's going to be much in terms of systems for the next little while,” said Berg.

“There's a ridge building up, bringing some warmer air from the south and from southwest. So that's going to be a general trend for the next week or so.”

Berg added that aside from the possibility of some rather strong wind gusts, up to 60 km/h at times, the only things residents need to worry about going forward is staying hydrated and making sure they put on some sunscreen.

The warm-up at a glance:

  • Today: Mainly sunny with a high of 18°, with a 30 km/h southeast wind and a UV index of 6.

  • Tomorrow: Mainly sunny, with some haze, a high of 20°, a 30 km/h southeast wind, and a UV index of 7.

  • Sunday: Sunny, high of 25°.

  • Monday: Sunny, high of 24°.

  • Tuesday: A mix of sun and cloud, high of 24°.
