On April 17, Rocky View Schools received provincial approval for five new modular classrooms and the relocation of a washroom unit.

According to RVS, to maximize efficiency, achieve the greatest cost savings and ensure these important student spaces are placed where they are most needed, the Board approved submitting a request to the government for amendments to the planned locations of these modular classrooms.

"If approved, four units will be placed at Nose Creek Elementary School in Airdrie, reducing utilization of the school from 118 per cent to 101 per cent for 2025/26."

The final new classroom unit, along with the relocated washroom unit, will be installed at Rainbow Creek Elementary School in Chestermere to accommodate students newly designated to the school starting in the 2025/26 school year.

RVS submitted a request for 27 new modular classroom units and one washroom unit relocation to Alberta Education in November 2024.

Last week, the 2025/26 operating budget was approved by the Board of Trustees.

According to RVS, most of the $344.5 million budget will go directly to schools in areas such as classroom and school staffing; numeracy, literacy, career learning and inclusion supports; Indigenous knowledge-building; technology and school-based supplies and resources.

RVS is expecting to welcome 500 new students in September. To support rising enrolments and diversity, and complexities in classrooms, RVS shared that 90 per cent of instructional dollars will go directly to schools, with the remaining dollars managed centrally to support schools and school staff.

The division shared that they remain focused on strengthening numeracy and literacy skills by providing schools with direct staffing for these targeted areas in elementary schools, with additional support from learning specialists, along with dedicated specialists in English as an Additional Language and Indigenous Learning.
