Some historic Model Ts were at the Dinosaur Downs Speedway over the weekend.

The speedway was hosting its annual Blast from the Past event on Saturday and Sunday, which showcases the vintage vehicles along with a stock car lineup. The event features Model T racers from across the province, including Strathmore's Aaron Ornburn.

"It's been pretty good. The weather has been the perfect temperature for racing," said Ornburn. "It's not too hot, and the winds taking the dust away for everybody, so it's been pretty good."

Orburn has been working on Model Ts for five years, inspired to join the sport after attending a race with his father.

"Our Model T group is just fantastic. We get along, joke, and have fun."

Some racers came from as far as Bruderheim, located northeast of Edmonton. One of those racers is Matt Hotte, who also helps organize the northern races.

"We got interested in the sport through the history of it, so me, my wife, and a couple of other people put the first one on in 2017, and it just kind of grew from there and became a real event," said Hotte.

The event's stock car lineup included IMCA modifieds, pure stock, and hobby stock series. There were also cold drinks and hot food for attendees to enjoy.

"The survival rate on these cars are insane. All three of the Model Ts we brought with us are original ones build in the 1940s and have history," added Hotte.
