The Strathmore Spartans girl's rugby team is celebrating their win of the Alberta High School Athletic Association's Rugby 7s tournament in St. Albert.
The tournament took place from May 23 to 24 and happened at the same time as Strathmore High School's graduation ceremonies, resulting in the loss of multiple senior players and a coach.
"Still, the Spartans remained focused, determined to defend their 2023 and 2024 titles," wrote coach Jerry Flaws.
The rugby team was reinstated in the semifinals after a misclassification of the game standings. The Spartans went on to beat West Island College 20-0.
In the championship final against Frank Maddock High School, the Spartans took the lead at halftime with a score of 15-0. At the end of the game, the Spartans had a winning score of 27-5.
"The win marked a historic third consecutive provincial title, a first for any team sport at Strathmore High School," Flaws said, noting the great achievement of his rugby team.
The Spartans also played against Peace Wapiti and Westmount Charter at the event
