Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) have issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Wheatland County, including near Strathmore, Lyalta, and Carseland.

According to the organization, conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may bring strong winds and large hail to the area.

"Thunderstorms will develop this afternoon and continue through the evening," wrote ECCC. "Damage to roofs, fences, branches or soft shelters is possible."

The group asks that residents stay indoors during thunderstorms, are lightning and hail can cause injuries and damage.

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when conditions have the chance of bringing in damaging hail, wind, or rain.
