The RCMP Major Crime Services unit continues to investigate the death of Dimitar Rachev, 75, whose remains were discovered on a rural property in the RM of Rockwood in November 2024.

Police have now confirmed the death as a homicide.

The remains were found near a residence off Highway 7 on the morning of November 21, prompting Stonewall RCMP and forensic teams to secure the scene and begin their investigation.

The initial discovery led to a multi-agency ground search that spanned several days.

Second search held in May

On May 15, 2025, investigators returned to the property with assistance from a forensic anthropology team. The secondary ground search is part of the ongoing effort to recover more evidence and build a timeline of events surrounding Rachev’s death.

Police believe the homicide occurred sometime after November 1, 2024, and are continuing to ask the public for any information about Rachev’s movements or contacts following that date.

Car linked to investigation recovered in Winnipeg

A significant development occurred on November 26, 2024, when a tip from the public led officers to an address in Winnipeg. There, they located a gray 2007 Saturn Ion, believed to be connected to the investigation. The vehicle, which had been removed from the Rockwood property, was secured and is undergoing forensic examination.
