The Saskatchewan NDP are calling for the Premier to condemn the separatist movement that they say is encroaching on the province.

NDP Critic for Trade and Export Development Kim Breckner says on Sunday, about 200 people gathered for the first of 15 town halls hosted by Unified Grassroots, an organization that encourages Saskatchewan residents to sign a petition for sovereignty.

Breckner says the group’s founder Nadine Ness was joined in Saskatoon by Mitch Sylvestre, the CEO of the Alberta Prosperity Project, a group that also hopes to put forward a referendum in its province.

“We already know that talk of separatism is killing jobs and investment in hydrogen projects in Alberta. I don’t want to see that happen here,” Breckner stated. “Even just the talk of separatism will have a devastating impact on our economy.”

Breckner says Premier Scott Moe’s silence on the topic is deafening. She adds that Moe and his caucus have refused to condemn this movement, shooting the NDP’s Keep Saskatchewan in Canada Act down several times.
