The Moose Jaw Health Foundation’s Little Princess Ball once again delivered a magical weekend for families, with more than 200 children filling the Moose Jaw Temple Garden Centre’s Curling Centre with a swirl of tulle, tiaras, ballgowns, and more tiaras.

Held over the weekend, this year’s ball featured a surprise Encanto theme, inspired by the magical Madrigal family from the Disney hit film.

“It was a great success,” said Kate Szeles, chair of the Little Princess Ball committee. “We had about 200 kids show up in their prettiest dresses and costumes. It was a great weekend.”

As always, the theme was kept secret until the day of the event, adding to the excitement. Characters Mirabel and Isabela made a special appearance, delighting attendees with autographs, photos, and plenty of time on the dance floor. Many other Disney princesses also visited, as usual, thrilling the children.

“They were a huge hit,” Szeles said. “The kids really enjoyed getting to meet them ... and, of course, dance the day away with them.”

Decorations embraced the colours and floral magic of Encanto to transform the Curling Centre into a Colombian-inspired wonderland. Activities included a busy craft station that ran out of supplies by Sunday night, a face-painting corner offering colourful butterfly tattoos, and a creative sidewalk chalk zone made possible by the venue’s concrete floors.

“Since the floor is a nice, clean concrete, Temple Garden Centre allowed us to let the kids go kind of crazy with the chalk, so they really had fun with that,” Szeles laughed.

A perennial favourite, the event’s scavenger hunt had children searching for hidden images scattered around the venue to earn small prizes.

No candy comas were reported, but the energy level stayed high thanks to DJ Silent C, who kept the music going with an upbeat, kid-friendly playlist.

Szeles said early planning is already underway for the next edition, expected in spring 2026. Details, including the date and ticket sales, will be announced sometime in December.

Meanwhile, the committee is tallying proceeds from this year’s event and expects to announce the total donation to the Moose Jaw Health Foundation in June.

The Little Princess Ball is a signature fundraiser for the Foundation, supporting local health initiatives and equipment purchases while providing families with a memorable day of connection, imagination, and community.
