A 34-year-old woman from Lake Louise has died after falling while skiing in the backcountry near Moraine Lake.
Parks Canada received a report at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27, of a skier who had fallen a considerable distance, according to an RCMP statement.
Visitor Safety Specialists with Parks Canada responded to the call. The skier was extracted by a long line with support from Alpine Helicopters.
STARS air ambulance also responded, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. RCMP confirmed she was a resident of Lake Louise.
"RCMP sends condolences to the family and friends of the deceased," the statement read.
