The Canadian Wrestling’s Elite tour made its highly anticipated return to Weyburn Tuesday night, bringing body slams, big energy, and even a can of wet dog food to the Weyburn Legion. Part of the "Point to Prove" Tour, the event was headlined by former TNA World Heavyweight Champion “Cowboy” James Storm and featured a full card of matches that had the crowd on their feet throughout the night.
Kicking off the night was CWE Central Canadian Champion Cam!!iKAZE, who successfully defended his title against veteran grappler Tony Kozina. After the match, Cam!!iKAZE spoke with Discover Weyburn about reconnecting with fans after nearly a year away from the city.
“There were so many kids and families. It was great, warm, welcoming back to Weyburn,” he said. “Fantastic energy tonight… I’m very blessed, and it’s great to be back in Weyburn.”
The show continued with Hot Shot Danny Duggan scoring a win over Bull Bodnar after a sneaky bit of referee distraction. James Storm got a big reaction from the crowd during his match against Ronnie Attitude, and even got an assist from some front-row fans to score the pinfall victory.
Perhaps the most eyebrow-raising moment of the night came in the “Loser Eats a Can of Wet Dog Food” Match, where “Crude Oil” Cody Mac defeated “Headline” Shaun Martens. With some post-match persuasion from Cam!!iKAZE and Bull Bodnar, Martens lived up to the stipulation.
The main event saw CWE Champion “Chizzeled” Chad Daniels face off against Mentallo. Mentallo won the match by disqualification, but because titles don’t change hands on a DQ, Daniels retained the belt.
Cam!!iKAZE, who also holds multiple titles across different promotions, said juggling that workload is no easy task—but it’s one he embraces.
“At one point, I had three belts in three different promotions. It was heavy on the gear bag, I’m not going to lie,” he joked. “When they give me the ball, I've got to run with it and hit those home runs.”
Staying in shape for the demanding schedule of a pro wrestler takes discipline, and for Cam!!iKAZE, it all starts with one thing: stretching.
“I've been stretching consistently since I was 12 years old, and then I train five days a week,” he said. “It’d be foolish not to stretch for all the punishment we put ourselves through, and then just have some good muscle mass, it's like a suit of armour. It helps absorb the punishment and the impact, and the whiplash effects, with what we do. This is not ballet by any means.”
As the CWE tour rolls on through 15 days across Central and Western Canada, Cam!!iKAZE says fans can expect a show like no other.
“It’s the best show in town. The best bang for your buck. A whole family event… we want to see all you people there.”
