A big part of the region’s summer music celebration is back in downtown Watson on Friday, June 20. Watson Streetfest returns on the summer solstice bringing another pair of Saskatchewan acts in the 4th annual edition.
Singer songwriter Brock Andrews makes his way back to the area to headline the show. Brock’s 2016 album, entitled “Eight” went to the top ten charts on iTunes. His radio presence is a testament to his exceptional song crafting, and he’ll bring the excitement of his like show to the stage and Watson’s Streetfest.
Newcomers to Watson are The Barrelmen. The multi-instrumental quartet are sure fire opener with an inviting hybrid of rock, country and bluegrass. Veterans of the festival circuit and friends and backing performers to the likes of Belle Plaine and Eliza Marie Doyle, their pedigree speaks for itself.
As if the music and beverage centre weren’t enough, there are other attractions, says musical organizer Jim Haussecker.
“The firemen will be barbecuing burgers and selling snacks. We’ll being doing a 50/50 draw. The sidewalk chalk was a hit with the kids last year, and they had most of the street painted up, so there is a little something for everybody.”
The event is organized by the Watson Fire Department with funds going back to the organization.
“We’re always in need of equipment; it’s not cheap being a firefighter, even with the suits themselves costing thousands of dollars,” says Haussecker who is a member of the fire department himself. “There’s upkeep on the trucks and pumpers and we have a new hall that we are trying to pay off.”
