Westmount School will be going through a significant upgrade.

Earlier this month it was announced that the design phase has begun for the new school due to funding from the province's School Construction Accelerator Program.

"This initiative will support the current and upcoming growth in Strathmore and area," wrote Golden Hills School Division in a news release. "Golden Hills is proud to lead innovative projects that engage students in meaningful, future-focused learning."

The current K-6 Westmount School will be replaced with an expanded K-9 school. According to the school division, the change will meet the evolving needs of families in the surrounding area.

“Finally, on behalf of our board, I would like to express our deep gratitude to the Government of Alberta and MLA Chantelle de Jonge for recognizing the needs of our community and for investing in the future of our students,” added board chair Laurie Huntley.

Westmount School has been operating in Strathmore for over 50 years.
