Strathmore RCMP have arrested a man following a hold and secure at every school in town.
According to police, they received reports of a man acting in a threatening manner at around 9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28, at Second Street in Strathmore. The report included that the man had a weapon on him.
"Given the proximity of the reported incident near daycares and schools, a hold and secure was issued to be put in place," said staff sergeant Mark Wielgosz. "Inadvertently, the hold and secure was expanded to all of the schools in Strathmore, which should not have been the case."
Wielgosz added that the hold and secure was originally for Holy Cross Collegiate and Sacred Heart Academy.
"As the investigation continued, we were able to locate the individual involved near No Frills within a walking distance of the area of the first initial complaint."
Officers discovered a pellet gun in the man's possession, with police expecting the man to be dealt a slew of charges.
"What I think is important is that there was no specific school or youth facility that was targeted by this individual," added Wielgosz. "It was a random encounter, if you will."
The man remains in custody and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
