God's Closet handed out free children's clothes to Strathmore families on Wednesday, May 28 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The nonprofit organization had tables stacked with clothes for children of all ages in the Lord of All Lutheran Church.

Participants paid a $1 entrance fee and were given two grocery bags to fill with free clothes.

"We collect children's clothes for three months and then we have a shop day," explained retired director Debbie Schwartz.

Families are able to shop without worrying about the cost of children's clothes. They can also donate outgrown clothes.

"We had a very generous donation from Lil' Hoots this last three months, so they had clothes that they didn't need any more and so they passed them on to us to have for the sale today," said Schwartz.

The majority of the donations come from Strathmore's community.

"When we first started out, we were very small, we had very few clothes. But it's grown over the years. This last God's Closet we had 110 families that came, and I would say we are heading in that direction again today," Schwartz said, noting the organization's growth and impact over eight years of operation.

"It's very rewarding to see all these people that are getting what they need," she added, highlighting the importance of their mission.

"We just praise and thank the Lord that people are willing to donate. All of these things that come we receive because people are generous, and we appreciate that so much because we couldn't do this without all the donations," Schwartz revealed.

Proceeds from the event go to pay off the rent of the church facility.
