County of Grande Prairie publishes 2024 Annual Report

The County of Grande Prairie has released its 2024 Annual Report, showcasing a year of remarkable growth, strategic investments, and strengthened regional partnerships. From advancing emergency preparedness to prioritizing economic development and community wellness, the County remains committed to building a thriving and sustainable future for all residents. 

The 2024 Annual Report details the County’s priorities and achievements, including: 

• A growing population: With an 11.88% increase since 2021, the County is home to more than 26,700 residents. 

• Economic development: The County partnered on regional initiatives such as Invest NW Alberta and Work NW Alberta to attract investment and strengthen the workforce. 

• Emergency preparedness and fire protection: Highlights include the launch of the Voyent Alert system and 24/7 on-call communication support, ongoing wildfire risk mitigation, two new Fire Prevention Officer positions, and the grand openings of the Beaverlodge Fire Hall and Regional Fire Training Centre. 

• Strategic investments: Nearly $72 million was allocated to road and bridge projects, and $33 million invested in critical infrastructure improvements. 

• Community support: More than $8.8 million in community grants supported local organizations, infrastructure, and events. 

• Responsible fiscal management: Despite revenue challenges and after three years of holding the line on municipal taxes and using reserves to balance the budget, the County moderately increased the municipal tax rate by 2.9 per cent to maintain current service delivery levels. 

• Plan Your County: Continued engagement on long-term planning, including updated Intermunicipal Development Plans, progress on the Municipal Development Plan, and the initiation of the Land Use Bylaw review.
