Airdrie City Council will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, June 10, to review an enforcement order regarding alleged unauthorized development and damage to city streets on Edwards Way.

According to a notice posted on the City of Airdrie website, the meeting will begin at 11 a.m. in Council Chambers and will be open to the public in person and online. Mayor Peter Brown called the meeting under the Municipal Government Act and the city’s Procedure Bylaw.

The notice states that Airdrie Municipal Enforcement issued the order on April 25 under Section 545 of the Municipal Government Act (MGA), which allows municipalities to require corrective action when someone is found to be in contravention of a bylaw or an enforceable provincial law.

The order pertains to the property located at 196 Edwards Way SW, which is legally described as Lot 6, Block 1, Plan 1511409. The city states that the development resulted in "unauthorized interference and damage to City streets" and caused "off-site impacts... to Edwards Way."

A related appeal will be heard by the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board (SDAB) on June 5. The hearing will take place at 1 p.m. in Council Chambers and be livestreamed.

The city says the appeal challenges a stop order issued in connection with development permit PL2300906.

Section 545 of the Municipal Government Act states that a municipality may issue a written order if a person is "contravening this or any other enactment that the municipality is authorized to enforce." Orders can direct a person to stop work, reverse changes, or take specific measures to remedy the contravention.
