A busy weekend on the soccer pitch took place in Humboldt last weekend. The Sask Cup Rural tournament for U15 boys, U19 boys, and U19 girls highlighted the action, with players off all ages on the field for the SaskTel "Be Kind Online" Skill Centre.
"Thank you to all teams who participated in our Sask Cup Rural event May 23-25 in Humboldt. Registrations increased for the second straight year with seven divisions competing this year." shared SaskSoccer on Instagram.
While most of the local talent was involved on the skills side of things, west-central Saskatchewan was represented by the Eatonia U15B team with athletes from Kindersley donning the same sweater. After a 2-2 draw in their opening match the team lost their last two games, and the host Humboldt Hurricanes ended up taking home the U15 trophy after a win over the other finalist team Lanigan Lightning.
The skill centre portion of the weekend saw Kindersley Soccer entering Storm teams in each of the U9 boys, U11 boys, U13 boys, and U13 girls' divisions.
Each pool played a round robin as the Kindersley Storm U9 co-ed team played boys teams from Humboldt and the Little Kodiaks team. The U13 boys Storm team played the Lanigan Lightning, Northeast United, Meadow Lake, Humboldt, and Estevan. The U11 boys pool had only three teams as the Storm played Humboldt and Meadow Lake. Finally, the U13 girls' division saw the Kindersley Storm facing Humboldt, Lanigan, Nipawin, and a team out of the East Central Soccer Academy.
After Special Olympics soccer provincials this weekend, the next event on the Sask Soccer schedule is Sask Cup #11 in June for A side teams in U9, U11, U13, U15, U17, & U19, that followed by the Sask Cup Adult & Sask Cup Masters taking place August 15-17 in Regina.
