Last week, it was announced that Chris Glass received the Mr. Airdrie Memorial Award in honour of Keith Wilkinson.
Glass is the second person to receive the yearly award, Mike Reist was the first to receive it.
After the sudden passing of one of Airdrie's most beloved souls and top volunteers last year, an anonymous donor has created the "Mr. Airdrie Memorial Award in Honour of Keith Wilkinson" to continue his legacy.
Wilkinson helped out the community in many different ways; some examples include him being a part of 100 Airdrie Men Who Give a Damn, helping fundraise money for Genesis Place, playing Santa and visiting some of the young residents and being a part of the Lions Club for a long time.
The award is presented to a volunteer to best demonstrates how Wilkinson spent his life giving back to the community and volunteering.
The four that were nominated this year include:
- Christopher Glass
- Lori McRitchie
- David Maffitt
- Roger Foster

"Each year, this award reminds me not only of the man Keith was, but of the kindness and generosity that still lives on in this community. To every nominee-thank you. You are living proof that Airdrie's heart is still strong. Your actions honour Keith's memory more than words ever could," shared Sandra Wilkinson.
Glass is very honoured to receive the award.
"It's just an amazing honour to be recognized, and, more importantly, to be sharing a room with people who have given so much time and so much volunteer work to Airdrie."
Glass is known for being a main organizer in the Homecoming Festival and Airdrie CultureFest, while also coaching the George McDougall Mustangs football team. He also played a large role in getting the new turf field.
He went on to share a message to those who want to get out and volunteer, but don't know where to start.
"Get out there and take that first step. You never know what it's going to lead to. We had no idea we were going to get the (turf) field when we started. We had no idea that CultureFest was going to take off the way it did."
He concluded by thanking everybody who voted for him and those who have helped him out along the way.
