The rip roaring two and four wheeled good time that is St. Gregor’s Shake Rattle and Roll is back. The good news is that last year’s inaugural counterpart, Shake Rattle and Race, also makes its return.
The traditional motorbike run is a fundraising partnership with the Parkinson’s Foundation and the St. Gregor Community Hall. It’s the 12th edition of the Roll and it’s happening Saturday, June 21 with the St. Gregor Community Hall as home base.
In addition to the hallowed motorbikes in their show and show and road roll, there’s also the tractor display and just about everything you can imagine with wheels, says organizer Wanda Kiefer. There’s no charge for entries to the show and shine, and there are few if any limits to what you can bring – as long as it’s a mobile form of transport.
“It’s a similar format to previous years with a kick-off breakfast from 9 to 10:30, and the rally will start at 11:15. We’ll have the show and shine, parade of tractors, and then we’ll set off with the 2nd annual Shake Rattle and Race.”
The race accepts only six teams of four members, but Kiefer says that there’s still room for three more, as of publication time.
“The teams have challenges at six different locations in a similar format to the TV show ‘The Amazing Race.’ First of all, you have to figure out where you’re going with clues or maps and using your head a bit. We have designated drivers, so the teams are chauffeured around.”
The chauffeurs are representatives of the corporate sponsors, and the teams need to collect pledges to determine the selection order for their drivers based on who they think will provide the best and most efficient transport (and who brings the best SWAG bag for each team member). It’s all up to the teams to figure out their destinations and meet the rigours of the challenge once they get there.
The entry fee per team is $100 dollars with a grand prize payout of $1200 for the top finishers.
The event has long been supported by area sponsors and businesses without whom the event may not be possible. Donors have provided silent auction and live auction goods for bids, and a concession with beverages is open throughout the event.
All the fundraising dollars stay in Saskatchewan, so come on out, enjoy the mechanized scenery and cheer on your favourite team with St. Gregor’s Shake Rattle and Roll and Shake Rattle and Race on June 21.
